About SAAFF

Seattle Asian American Film Festival (SAAFF) is the only film festival to provide a space for pan-Asian American voices, perspectives, and histories told through multimedia arts in Seattle. Our volunteer-run organization empowers and uplifts Asian American creatives and builds community connections through our annual festival and other year-round events. We aim to be a platform that broadens the understanding of our community’s stories through elevating independent films that reflect the diversity and richness of Asian Americana and Asian diasporas.

Land Acknowledgment

We at Seattle Asian American Film Festival would like to acknowledge that we occupy and reside on the unceded traditional lands of Coast Salish Peoples, specifically the first people of Seattle, the Duwamish tribe. Since time immemorial, this land has been stewarded by the Duwamish and we honor their people past and present, and the land in which we gather.

It is our obligation to stand in solidarity with the Duwamish. Promises made in the 1855 Treaty of Point Elliot between the United States government and the Duwamish tribe remain unfulfilled, and they are still fighting for federal recognition. 

We resist the erasure of Indigenous histories and work towards honoring and inviting truth into this space, and encourage our audiences to learn about and acknowledge whose land they reside on. As we work towards creating visibility for Asian American communities, SAAFF is committed to dismantling ongoing legacies of settler colonialism, imperialism, and other systems of oppression that affect us all. Never again is now. From Congo and Sudan to Palestine, the Kingdom of Hawai’i to Guam, none of us are free until we are all free. Asian American liberation can only be achieved if we work towards collective liberation together.
