Thi Vo and his mother came to Canada as refugees when they escaped Vietnam in 1981, and he grew up never knowing any blood relatives other than his mother. He never learned the full truth about his father or any of their relatives, and his mother always said to him, “I’ll tell you when you get older.” Now 33-years-old, he has no choice but to seek the answers himself in the country where he barely speaks the language.
