Third up, learn more about Jae, owner and operator of the recently opened Sushi J! Sushi J, located in Bellevue, was named one of Yelp’s Top 100 places to eat and has been celebrated by the likes of Strictly Dumpling’s Mike Chen. We asked Jae a little bit about his business and this is what he had to say!
When and what inspired you to start your business?
Sushi J opened on March 4, 2020. Jae, the owner of Sushi J, majored in Japanese Culinary and enjoyed cooking since high school. He wasn’t into studying so he spent most of his time in the kitchen.
How has COVID-19 affected your business?
Sushi J opened during COVID-19, so business was extremely slow for the first 4 months. He barely made any sales in the beginning and had to borrow money to buy ingredients. However with the help of some social media influencers and Yelp, he was able to get more exposure. He recently got featured on the famous YouTube Vlogger MikeyChen video who has over a million subscribers. A lot of people consider his restaurant a Hidden Gem.
What would you like our SAAFF audience to know about your business?
We strive to offer the best quality sushi at the most affordable price. Our menu is simple but sometimes the simplest food is the most delicious food.
