In This Program

  1. THE CURSE OF QUON GWON: WHEN THE FAR EAST MINGLES WITH THE WEST

    Marian E. Wong / Short Film, Browse All Films / USA / 1916 / Drama / 36 mins
Filmed in 1916, this seminal work is the oldest known Chinese American movie and one of the earliest movies to have a female director. Never released and long-thought lost, the incomplete film was eventually rediscovered and restored. It was recognized as a culturally, historically and aesthetically significant film by the National Film Registry.

  2. BEACON HILL BOYS

Ken Mochizuki, Bill Blauvelt, and Dean Hayasaka / Short Film, By Northwest Filmmakers, Browse All Films / USA / 1985 / Drama / 43 mins
The first ever dramatic film about Asian American youth, and the impetus for the first SAAFF in 1985. Set in the 1970's, in a Seattle so different yet so familiar, Dan Inagaki and his friends cruise through life after high school—adulthood looming closer than anyone would like. Director/writer/actor Ken Mochizuki scheduled to attend.
