AN AMERICAN HERO: SHIRO KASHINO

Based on the graphic novel FIGHTING FOR AMERICA: NISEI SOLDIERS, this inventive animated short tells the story of Shiro Kashino, a World War II Nisei veteran. Born in Seattle and a graduate of Garfield High School, Shiro would go on to join the 442nd Regimental Combat Team and become one of the most decorated soldiers of the Second World War.

Shannon Gee is a Seattle-based producer, director, and writer. She worked on a number of award-winning documentaries including Conscience And The Constitution, a documentary on the Heart Mountain internment camp draft resisters, and One Generation’s Time, about the legacy of Filipino American activists Silme Domingo and Gene Viernes. Shannon currently works with the Seattle Channel as Senior Producer for the Emmy award-winning Community Stories, a documentary series about the diverse communities in Seattle.
